Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, California

The Monterey Jazz Festival is probably the longest running festival in the world. It was founded by the jazz radio broadcaster Jimmy Lyons and has been running consecutively since 1958. It is held over 3 days annually on the 20-acre site of the Monterey County Fairgrounds on the third weekend in September. The festival features around fifty concert performances on nine stages spread throughout the grounds. Five hundred top jazz musicians take part. As well as the concerts, there are workshops, exhibitions, international cuisine, panel discussions and shopping opportunities throughout the grounds.

Montreal International Jazz Festival in Montreal, Canada

According to the famous Guinness Book of World Records, the Montreal International Jazz Festival is the largest festival in the world. It takes place annually over ten days at the beginning of the Montreal festival season. Three thousand artists from more than 30 countries perform over six hundred concerts, spread out over twenty stages at different venues across the entire city. The festival attracts more than two million jazz lovers each year. Most of the concerts are free to the public. The music performances start daily at noon and go on until midnight.

Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland

The Montreux Jazz Festival has been going for some 50 years. It is the second biggest festival in the world and continues to grow every year. For two weeks every year, the Swiss town of Montreux comes alive and turns into a paradise for jazz lovers. The setting on the shores of Lake Geneva makes for an idyllic backdrop to the fabulous jazz event. In addition to the many concerts, visitors can take a Jazz Cruise on Lake Geneva or catch a Jazz Train.
